Drivetime. The time to leave work, get into the car and turn on the radio. There a DJ will keep you lightly entertained with smooth MOR tunes and some inane chat all the way home. I like to think there’s another reality where people will slide in a Mat Riviere CD and as their car [...]

The last time I came across Zombie Zombie, they were soundtracking my late-night drive to dystopia. I’m pleased to bump into them again, this time bringing their excellent Krauty electronics to bear down upon a song by their fellow-countrymen Yeti Lane, and inject their space pop with the heebie jeebies.

I’m easing myself back into proper blogging with this pleasing little oddity, an Alan Pownall remix by cool kids Monarchy. Like the Pet Shop Boys, it manages to stay on the right side of cheese, and it’s goodness is largely due to the quality of the original song. It won’t be for everyone, but it’s [...]

Rough Trade has a new Indiepop compilation out. Rather than look to past lo-fi classics like they did on their previous collection, these are current artists carrying the torch for proper DIY music with good tunes. Internet Forever aren’t on this comp, but they really should be, mainly because there are few other bands out [...]

Unlike these people, I don’t care much for remixes. But every so often one comes along and shouts down my prejudices like an angry Question Time audience. Since their remix of Grace Jones’ Williams Blood became one of my favourite things of last year, it was always likely that another Aeroplane remix would hit the [...]

It shouldn’t work. What’s best about Wildbirds & Peacedrums is the sheer raw energy of Mariam’s vocals and Andreas’ mad drumming. You shouldn’t mess with that should you? But seems like someone has. The real drumming has been stripped right out, to be replaced by some thumping electronic beats and synth stabs. But despite the [...]

“Are they still going?” my colleague just asked me as I was looking at the new Cornershop single on the Rough Trade Shops website. Well may he ask - it’s almost seven years since they last released an album, and ten since they had their day in the sun, courtesy of a Norman Cook remix [...]

Not another one…

It’s probably massively irresponsible to add yet another Royksopp remix to the the huge pile already making the internets groan. But this is a quick post and it is good remix, as you’d expect coming from everyone’s favourite Canadian Krautrockers.
In other news, the new Camera Obscura album is great. More on that soon…

The Invisible are the awesome London answer to TV on the Radio. Dananananackroyd are a bunch of crazy Glasgow guitar noiseniks, so you probably wouldn’t expect their lead singer to adopt the name ‘Cereal’ and string out The Invisible’s London Girl with electropop bleeps and beats. But he does. And it’s ace.
