The main reason I do this blog is to get people interested in the music I like. When this happens, it’s always good and probably results in a few extra CD sales for the artists concerned. Sometimes though it takes a different, even better direction. Back in 2006, I unwittingly introduced fellow blogger Neil from Music Like Dirt to James Mathe, then trading under the name Barbarossa. Now James is recording under his own name, and Neil has only gone and recorded a whole live session with him! He’s been posting the videos, recorded at the Pure Evil gallery in Hoxton, on his own blog this week already, but he’s very kindly given me first dibs on posting one of the tracks he recorded.

When you first hear ‘Lenny Kravitz cover’, you may recoil. But remember that James has already covered Terence Trent D’Arby to very fine effect, and this version is every bit as good. Check out the video, check out Neil’s other videos, and download the mp3 below. And buy James’ records. His self-released EP is still available from Rough Trade and his new album Care Cracks is coming soon.
