The first three months of 2011 have been a bit of a washout. At least as far as this blog is concerned. Real life overtook me, and I’ve spent weeks suffering from illness or dealing with it in the family. The rest of the time has been just too busy. But I’m back. With an old favourite.
One of the things I did whilst huddled and shivering on the sofa last week was finally get round to watching a DVD I’d won years ago. It’s a recording of Calexico’s 2002 concert at the Barbican, accompanied by their Tuscon pals Mariachi Luz de Luna. I was at the gig, and watching it again over eight years later made me remember how amazing it was. Probably the best I’ve ever seen Burns, Convertino & Co. It’s been years since I last saw them - the Roundhouse in 2006 I think - so would be great to have another album and some UK shows this year. Who knows. Great band.
