Next, a couple of remixes. Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve is the name under which Erol Alkan and Richard Norris release re-edits of weird obscure old psychadelia and folky stuff, most notably on a series of limited and highly collectable 12 inch EPs. But it’s also the name which they use to remix folk and Americana type songs by other artists. The two finest recent examples of these are their re-workings of Findlay Brown’s Losing the Will to Survive and Midlake’s Roscoe. I think these are remixes rather than re-edits, but the re-edit spirit is there. The tunes are not messed around with too much, just extended and a light touch given on the extras. But it’s enough to make them into something quite lovely. And even if they’re not quite going to burn up the dancefloor, they certainly make the originals twist in a different way.

Daily Growl,
Just a quick word to say that I have been trying to find the Midlake - Roscoe tune that you have posted for ages, but couldn’t find it online to buy anywhere. Cheers for the link. Would you be able to share the source? Just heard the Beggin tune aswell and both songs on one page - massively useful.
What are your main radio stations/shows you listen to? I see a bit of a Da Bank influence, but if you have anything else you could recommend I would be properly interested in knowing more.
Good Work. R

Honestly, I can’t remember where I got it from. It was some blog that I found by doing a Google search for the track, so maybe it’ll still come up. I should try to find out and give credit where it’s due.
Da Bank is indeed an influence (probably more in the past than now, though I still listen to his show). The only other radio shows I listen to are Seam Rowley’s Joy of Music on BBC London and John Kennedy’s Xposure on Xfm (from which you’ll find a good few live tracks on this blog)…
